This is for your real-life besties.
I made avery.omg.lol for one reason:
to help you build better
connections with your favorite people!
Wanna know the secret to better connections?
You gotta choose to show up and do it consistently!
No dings! No badges! No naggy little red circles telling you what to do! You don't need to be reminded that your friends exist.
It's fun to check in on a friend's profile to see if they updated their song choice! You won't get notified when it happens -- the only way to find out is to pay them a visit.

The music player sticks around while you click through the site -- it just keeps playing in the background. Found something good on a friend's profile? You can add it to the queue and keep the playlist going.

You gotta use your words!
You can't build strong connections with someone by pushing a button. You show up for your friends by talking to them! People can tell when you're putting in the bare minimum level of effort, and if that's what you're giving them, that's what they'll give you in return. It's all about the effort!

You gotta make eye contact!
You gotta talk to your friends, not at them! Address someone directly by posting on their page! When you post onto your own timeline, you're connecting to a database, not a person.
Building real connections takes time.
Hi! I'm Avery!
I dislike what mainstream social media turned into. It used to be a space for keeping up with the people you love, but over time those spaces were overtaken by salesmen and clout-chasers, all competing for your attention. Content became more valuable than connection. You're either on stage, or you're the audience. This isn't the kind of connection I'm looking for.
Modern social media has lowered the bar for what even counts as a connection. Notifications, like buttons, posting into the void: the same ease that makes those tools effortless is exactly what makes the connection underneath them less personal.
I began to reflect on what early social media did right (and where it went wrong), and I built this site to try to replicate the closeness of old social media sites.
And hey, what if it was kinda girly?

avery.omg.lol is invite-only.
In service of building better connections with real people, you have to be invited by someone who's already here. Once you're in, you'll get your own private invite code to send out to your people.
